Installation in Hammond XB-2 (old HX3 kit)

Installation in Hammond XB-2 may be performed by any skilled person; no or very little soldering required. Please click on picture to enlarge. Please also regard Wiki HX-3 user manual on Bedienungshinweise#XB2-Nachrüstsatz.

Note: This kit is no longer produced, use for reference only! For new HX3/XB-2 kit with much simpler installation, see Installation XB2-Kit.

Open XB-2 by loosening 5 big screws on bottom. Remove keyboard by loosening 7 medium sized black screws on bottom and inside organ. Diconnect keyboard from mainboard plug connector. Remove nylon wire straps, but DO NOT cut any cables, just unplug all connectors!
Remove all boards inside including supporting rails. Retain cables and headers from power supply, front panel, drawbars, LCD and volume/reverb pots. Locate pink/black/green/orange strain and separate black/white strain to now unused connectors. Obsolete XB-2 power connectors may be cut off as pictured or may be left open. Insulate cut wires with shrink tube. DO NOT cut long orange/black/green/black/yellow cable!
Install HX3 mainboard and LCD interface board as pictured using wood screws and 5mm plastic spacers. Cut and Connect black/yellow strain to green HX3 power connector (plus = yellow, Gnd = black). Connect LCD and button cables to matching connectors on LCD interface board.
Install jack board from XB-2 kit and connect 5-pin power connector from power supply (orange/black/green/black/yellow), also connectors from volume/reverb pots. On #1.1 version boards, cut off 8-pin header with three brown/red/white wires on volume pot cable and connect all three wires together, insulate with shrink tube. On #1.3 boards, just plug in 8-pin header on jack board.
Install five 10-pin and one 16-pin flat ribbon cables from LCD interface board to HX3 board as pictured. Note: Plugs may have different cable outlet, just regard pin 1 orientation (red wire on flat ribbon cable).
Install long 10-pin flat ribbon cable from HX3 PL12 to jack board and long 8-pin flat ribbon cable from LCD interface board to jack board.
Install two 3-pin audio cables from HX3 to jack board according to silk screen lettering. Re-install MIDI jack board and connect to 12-pin MIDI bulk connector. Install 2-pin contrast adjust cable from small MIDI adapter board to LCD interface board. Install two 3-pin cables from MIDI adapter board to HX3 MIDI connectors according to silk screen printing. Remark: MIDI adapter board may be integrated on jack board on future versions, so installation looks different.
Re-Install keyboard and ground wire, connect keyboard to LCD interface board.
Plug in Leslie 11-pin connector on jack board. Solder ground wire to ground point at 10 Ohms resistor (brown/black/black color coding) on jack board as shown. Note: #1.3 boards provide a separate ground lug, solder here. Check cabling again and switch on. Display should light up and display welcome message. Check all buttons and functions. Note: Some button and jack usage is different, so regard user manual. Switch off XB-2.
Re-Install keyboard and ground wire, connect keyboard to LCD interface board. That's it! Check cabling again and switch on. Attach self-adhesive lettering. Check all buttons and functions.
