HX3 Retrofit Kit for Hammond XB-2
Usage of a HX3-equipped XB-2 differs somewhat from original since HX3 offers some more options. Drawbars and large panel buttons act as before, but SOLO button toggles between upper and lower manual. If lit up, upper manual is selected; otherwise, drawbars and vibrato button affect lower manual (or section below split point). Additional B3 functions are available in EDIT mode.
XB-2 display shows preset number, drawbar registrations and briefly selected percussion and vibrato settings. An arrow shows selected manual by SOLO button.
- SOLO button toggles between upper and lower manual
- PERCUSSION SECOND and THIRD activate percussion; only one may be active the same time
- VIBRATO ON activates scanner vibrato of HX3. Power-on default is chorus-vibrato C3. Use EDIT mode to access other vibrato/chorus depths.
- LESLIE FAST toggles between slow and fast Leslie speed (external if present as well as internal simulation).
Buttons below XB-2 keybed achieve new functions:
RECORD toggles Leslie between RUN and STOP
EDIT toggles EDIT mode on and off. LED indicates EDIT mode active
'CANCEL sets presets off and selects "live" mode

Pots und Jacks
Left pot ("Reverb") below keybed becomes the Leslie Amp simulation volume control. It also affects the 11-pin Leslie volume as the Leslie signal is derived inernally from 122 tube amp simulation.
Ausgänge auf Rückseite der XB-2: Da die XB-2-Elektronik vollständig ersetzt wurde, bekommen einige Buchsen eine neue Funktion oder sind nicht mehr vorhanden. Von links nach rechts:
"HEADPHONE" (neu): Anschluss eines Kopfhörers (an Leslie-Simulation, Mono!)
Ausgang "MAIN & BASS" (neu) ist zweikanalig: Basspedal auf Klinkenstecker-Ring, Orgel-Signal (nach 122-Amp-Simulation) auf Klinkenstecker-Spitze. Mono-Kabel verwendbar, falls Pedal nicht benötigt.
"FOOT SWITCH" (neu): Doppel-Fußschalter zur Steuerung des Leslies, Simulation wie auch externes Leslie.
"SWELL FC-7": Es sind mit Yamaha FC-7 kompatible Schweller anzuschließen. Ohne Schweller ist maximale Lautstärke der AO28-Preampsimulation eingestellt. "EXP PEDAL" der XB-2 nicht mehr vorhanden, ein Anschluss des Hammond-Schwellers ist nicht möglich.
"LESLIE SIM" (neu): Ausgang der internen Leslie-Simulation. Nicht von "VOLUME"-Regler beeinflusst, nur von "122 GAIN".
"MIDI THRU" ist nicht belegt, keine Funktion!
"FOOT SWITCH" (alt), neben MIDI-Buchsen: nicht belegt, keine Funktion!
"CONTRAST" beeinflusst wie bisher die Display-Lesbarkeit, kann je nach Umgebungstemperatur für beste Lesbarkeit angepasst werden.
Die 11pol. Leslie-Buchse ist weiterhin benutzbar. Das Pedal-Signal wird auf den stationären Leslie-Kanal geleitet (nur relevant bei mehrkanaligen Leslies wie 722 etc. und Anschluss eines MIDI-Pedals). Das Leslie erhält das Signal der 122-Amp-Simulation, somit sind auch mit Transistorleslies sehr brauchbare Overdrive-Effekte zu erzielen. Auch die Leslie-Gesamtlautstärke wird vom Volume-Regler gesteuert.
Das Untermanual kann per MIDI auf Kanal 2 (default) zugespielt werden, Pedal (feste Einstellung) auf Kanal 3.
Die Lautstärke von Kopfhörer-, Leslie-, Bass- und Orgelausgängen können mit den internen Trimmpotis auf der Klinkenbuchsen-Platine des Ergänzungssatzes angeglichen werden. Beachten Sie, dass externe Original-Leslies ein relativ hohes Ausgangssignal benötigen; voreingestellt ist 1,5 Veff.
Beim neuen Kit (ab September 2013) behält die FOOTSWITCH-Buche (neben MIDI) ihre Funktion; auf der alten Version war sie separat. Als Ausgänge sind hier vorhanden: HEADPHONE, BASS, MAIN ORGAN, SWELL, LESLIE SIM. Alle Ausgänge sind mono. Bei der alten Version liegen LESLIE SIM und MAIN OUT auf einer gemeinsamen Stereo-Buchse. Verwenden Sie hier ggf. ein Y-Adapterkabel.
